What a trip! I had a couple of long flights and a 2 hour layover but I'm here! This is my first time here, so it's really interesting to me. I got in at 8pm last night and it was about an hour drive from the airport.
Kelly, this one's for you! They had an ipod vending machine in the airport! Crazy!
I'm staying in Aunt Lydia and Uncle Jim's 5th wheel camper, and it's pretty nice and spacious.
I went through all the trouble to mail my clothes here so I wouldn't have to check any baggage and the stupid box didn't get here until late today. Oh well, I just wore the same thing I wore yesterday when Dad and I did our running around.
Dad showed me some of his medals he got while he was in the marine corps. I didn't know he got the purple heart but I guess it's because he got it for something he did in Vietnam. He doesn't like to talk about it much but that's ok. He's very proud of his time he spent in the corps and I'm proud of him too.
My grandmother lives with my aunt and uncle and guess what I found on her shelf? Yep that's me when I was about 6.
The view from the top of the hills is beautiful. There's just so much open space out here, it's crazy. Tomorrow we're going to the wildflower seed place. I'm hoping to bring some Texas Bluebonnet seeds home with me.
I plan on taking lots more pictures and posting when I can, I can only get wireless in the house not the camper, so if I don't get back with anyone that's why.
I'm flying to Texas in about an hour to visit my dad for a week. I always stress out before I travel, hoping I don't forget something and making sure I get everything done before I go. And heaven forbid I don't get to the airport 3 hours early, lol. Thankfully the airport here in Wilmington is pretty small and laid back. I didn't check any luggage because I've heard so many stories lately about it getting lost and delayed, so I mailed a small box of my clothes and shoes ahead and am just bringing everything else in my carry on. I've got my knitting, book, magazine, zune, laptop and a ton of other essentials so I can barely close the darn thing. Oh well, its worth it to not have to wait at the baggage claim for an hour.
I'll try to post from dads but I don't know if I'll have access to wifi anywhere, we'll see. I just can't wait to board the plane because then I'll have about 7 hours of knitting, woo!
I saw some kiddie kites at walmart during a grocery shopping trip the other day and thought that it had been years and years since I flew one. So yesterday I stopped by the local kite shop, Blowing in the Wind, to look for a little portable one for the beach. I always prefer to support local businesses if I can, especially downtown, and I'm glad I did. The guy there was really helpfull and they had a huge selection. There were some really awesome and fancy kites but in the end I settled for this little guy. Cute and easy to esemble, and it does flips and dips like a stunt kite. Its really a lot of fun. And I can just fasten it to my bag and leave it up in the sky while I tan, perfect!
I went down to the waterfront on Sunday to get some ice cream (kilwins, yum!) and this is what I saw, a huge oil tanker comming down the river. I've heard they come through every once in a while but I've never seen it before. I knew the bridge went up for ships but I always asumed it opened in the middle like a draw bridge. Instead the whole middle section raises up and the boat sails underneath it. It was quite a sight to see this enormous tanker slowly float by historic downtown.
I have been so busy the last couple weeks I haven't even had time to make a vox post. I've been taking pics of tons of different things meaning to make a post about them but I've been to lazy to just sit down and do it. Then today something happens and I don't have my camera! ugh! It wasn't a huge deal, but it was pretty cool. I was walking along the riverwalk and heard some chirping birds... except the sound was comming from under the walk towards the water. I look down and see the most beautiful barn swallow perched on beam about a foot away from me. He stayed there for a while and stared at me before flying away. He was so cute! I had never seen one in real life before. And of course I couldn't take a picture.
Here's some pics of what I've been up to in the last 2 weeks:
The azalea festival was 2 weekends ago. I've gone almost every year since I was a kid. Now that I live downtown I really love it. No fighting for parking, everything was in walking distance, it was great. My parents came down for the day and spent some time with me. We ended the night with dinner at Yosake, they've got the best sushi.
This is Robbie. He's a local tattoo artist and a friend of ours. We ran into him last week hanging outside of the local coffee shop dressed like some weird kind of tiki god. Turns out it was just his birthday.
Wed nights at the Little Dipper is ladies night, so Erin, Kelly, Victoria, and I went last week. I got a lovely fizzy pink drink that I can't remember the name of right now, but it was great. We had the cheese course and a chocolate dessert, it was delicious!
It was nice to have some girl time. We're hoping to do this about once a month.
Took Sebastian to the beach last weekend, he really loves it. I'm so glad it's finally warming up, I'm hoping to go a lot more often.
I've got a lot of fun things comming up soon, including a trip to Texas to visit my Dad and his side of the family. I'm really looking forward to it. I'm going to try to post more often to keep everyone updated!
Had some Kyoto Cherry Rose tea with breakfast today.
Always a good way to start the day.
Spoke to my dad today, I'm going to visit him in Texas next month! Yay! I haven't been able to visit him in over a year. It's really tough to schedule time off with my job but thankfully I work a 4 day workweek now so it's a little easier. I miss my dad a lot so I'm really looking forward to some daddy - daughter time. ;)
I went to the park the other day and soaked in the sun and took a few pics of the geese. They're so cute.
The more I think about my trip to Texas, the more I worry about the flight. I generally enjoy flying, even with layovers. I like people watching at the airports and checking out the gift shops. But the recent news articles about how crappy the service is makes me wonder if I should have bought bus tickets instead. They say that more and more luggage is getting lost and not to even check baggage if you can help it. This should be interesting....
This is what Sebastian has been doing ALL MORNING LONG.
He cracks me up.
Got the day off today, going to stay home and clean. I love/hate days like this. I can't decide if I'm happy to have nothing important to do or not.
Here's my latest favorite song:
Reasons to Love You
Give me a reason to fall in love
Take my hand and let's dance
Give me a reason to make me smile
Cause I think I forgot how
I wanna fall asleep with you tonight
I wanna know that I am safe when you hold me tight
I wanna feel like I wanna feel forever
Girls need attention, and boys need us
So let's make everybody glad
That they have each other in each others arms
Oh let's make everybody glad
I want you.
I wanna dream away with you tonight
We can go anywhere you would like
I wanna feel how I wanna feel forever
I want you
